Activities

Open Meetings - Fine Arts Programs:

Programs are held the third Monday of the month, September through April (except in December) and are open to League members and the public at no charge. The Annual Meeting is held in May. Featuring lectures, demonstrations, and professional critique the programs are preceded by coffee at 7:00 PM and a brief business meeting at 7:30 PM.

Classes:

A general art curriculum is offered, stressing the basics of drawing, design and painting. Beginning through advanced painting classes in a variety of media are offered. The League offers a 10% discount on class fees to Senior Citizens 62 years and over.

Classes for adults and children are scheduled in quarterly sessions throughout the year. Older children (14-18) will be accepted into adult classes with the approval of the instructor. See class brochures for schedule.

Regular gallery staffers may take a DPAL class at 1/2 the price rate for every 12 weeks of staffing. This does not apply to workshops.

Scholarships:

Upon request, funds are allocated to school art programs and students. In addition, membership or class tuition may be waived for community individuals presenting evidence of financial need. Scholarships for DPAL classes are available.

Workshops:

Special workshops from a few hours to a week long sessions will be scheduled when possible with nationally known artists. Registration fees will be established in accordance with the costs involved.

Artists Outreach:

To educate, stimulate and encourage interest in the visual arts, artists will demonstrate their special area of concentration.

One artist, or a group of artists may be scheduled for your school or organization. Special attention is given to specific age groups and/or special needs.

Paint Outs:

Summer Paint-outs are organized begining in May. Members and their guests meet at specified locations and times (weather permitting). The schedule and location sites will be posted in the DPAL office and in the newsletter. There will be no instructors. Artists are required to bring their own gear, supplies, water, etc.

Art Fairs:

All information and entry blanks received by the DPAL for area and regional art fairs will be maintained in the office. Art Fairs will be announced monthly in the newsletter whenever space is available.

Rotating Shows:

In various locations throughout DuPage County, many DPAL artist's works may be seen. Artists display original artwork at area businesses, libraries, corporations, etc, to be changed at two to three month intervals. These shows are hung in supporting businesses and in public buildings.

Special Services:

Special Services is a free shopping service for the public. Requests for special works of art from individuals are referred to an artist who specializes in that specific area.

Gallery:

The gallery displays a new exhibit each month of high quality two-and three-dimensional artwork. Non-members may exhibit in these shows for a $10.00 fee. Awards of merit are presented for outstanding work.

Collectors Corner:

Collectors Corner offers a large selection of modestly priced gift and fine craft items including pottery, jewelry, sculpture, small paintings and prints, and wearable and fiber arts.
