Pastels

Painting with Pastels (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced)

ROTTSOLK–Wednesday mornings (9:30-12:00 PM)

Spend a morning playing with color and studying highlights and shadows. Soft pastels provide an immediacy and purity of color that encourages such exploration. Work from your own references, but always realizing that they are but the starting point on your journey of creativity and personal style. Click here for supply list

Pushing Creativity with Oil Pastels (Beginner, Intermediate)

BRUCE–Thursday Mornings (9:30-12:00 PM)

Join in and continue honing your creativity with oil pastel skills. Experienced painters, feel free to go your own way with assistance and advice. For less experienced painters, or those wanting to “push the envelope” with oil pastels, we will investigate different techniques of objective and non-objective art, concentrating on design, composition and originality with a critique at the end of each class. Each artist will feel comfortable and receive the assistance needed to create a successful painting of his/her own. Demos provided.

Three Stages for Painting with Pastel (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced)

ZACK–Friday afternoons (12:30-3:00 PM)

Use Soft Pastel to create paintings using these three steps:

The Underpainting step,

The Developmental step and…

The Finishing  step

Also, learn when to incorporate Shape, Value, Edges and Color as key components for creating a beautiful and accomplished painting. The immediacy of pastel’s application and its forgiving nature makes working with pastel a great medium for creating luminous, spontaneous and atmospheric paintings. Learning how to combine these attributes easily and quickly will result in your own personal and unique visual statement.

Watercolor

Beginning Watercolor (Beginner, Intermediate)

WAHLGREN–Monday mornings (9:30-12:00 PM)

Watercolor does not have to be muddy or mysterious. The basics will be covered, from setting up the paint box to painting techniques. This class is both for beginners and the continuing student who wants to review and strengthen basic skills. Projects will include fruit, flowers, landscapes, and composition.

Experiment with Watercolor – BOLD, LOOSE & FUN (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced)

DANIELSON–Monday afternoons (1:00-3:30 PM)

This class is designed for both the beginner and the intermediate student who is ready to explore and discover watercolors by first setting a secure foundation of skills and techniques and then striving for a personal artistic statement. Values, color, and composition will be covered. Classes will include demos, individual guidance, support, and critiques in a friendly environment.  Click here for supply list

Advanced Watercolor (Intermediate, Advanced)

Color theory and composition are offered in this exciting, new class. Experimental ideas and techniques will be tried along with helpful critiques and plenty of encouragement.

Improving Your Watercolor Skills (Intermediate, Advanced)

SHIPLEY–Friday mornings (9:30 – 12:00 PM)

This class will focus on bringing freshness, movement and vitality to your paintings. Each class will start with a critique of the homework from the previous week. Individual needs will be covered in class demonstrations.
