Create realistic oil paintings using time-tested techniques of the craft. This course distills the technical foundations of depiction into four distinct methods, inspired by Impressionism, Classical Realism, the Pre-Raphaelite style, and Modern Tonal Realism. Each session begins with clear instruction and live demonstration, followed by hands-on studio time where students develop their own paintings from start to finish, applying the skills just learned. Along the way, you’ll gain a solid understanding of pigment-based color theory and cultivate ways of seeing that sharpen artistic observation, deepen visual memory, and adapt the lessons of the Old Masters to your own work in an authentic way.
